“Tacky Box Time”

A Modern Day Mister Rogers with a Channel One, in-school distribution model.

WHAT:

From the creators of Tacky Box, an award-winning mental health and wellness program, comes a children’s television series hosted by Rock-T, an accomplished radio and television personality and youth advocate.

Each 30-minute episode features a combination of animated lessons from the characters in the Tacky Box book series and a discussion of real life applications between Rock-T and a simulated 3rd grade class comprised of professional actors and Dallas/Fort Worth based residents. The program transitions from an aspirational 3rd grade live action set to the magical jungle as depicted in the book series and is underscored by an engaging musical track adapted from the Tacky Box theatrical production loved by children across the State of Texas and requested by elementary schools nationwide.

To meet school demand in an efficient, cost effective, and scalable way, Tacky Box will provide this series to approved elementary schools nationwide for use in classrooms as early as Fall 2023.

WHY:

The United States is experiencing an obvious character crisis that will continue without scalable interventions, targeting children at an early age. The playground to prison pipeline continues to grow as less than desirable behaviors are modeled for young children every day. Criminal justice reformers and neuroscientists have acknowledged the best way to disrupt the playground to prison pipeline is to teach children to make better choices.

Lessons-&-Strategies

Research shows that elementary schools, specifically in large urban areas, are in dire need of emotional health and wellness programs like Tacky Box to help students learn to process emotions, set and accomplish positive goals, show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. Studies also show that when mental health programs are implemented, academic scores increase by 11 points.

However, most programs require implementation by teachers, who struggle with bandwidth and a challenging teaching environment, both of which have contributed to a nationwide teacher shortage. In addition, school district budgets continue to be slashed and little funding is available for emotional health programs, regardless of the proven need.

Through this innovative series, Tacky Box will continue to effectively address these issues —  but at a more rapid pace and with broader reach than through live theater alone — by taking its proven method to elementary schools nationwide on screen.
